To clarify I was actually taking my board off in the water at the end of a boat set. I use Liquid Force Team bindings which are fiddly to get on and off at the best of times and with the rain coming down I rushed things more than usual and yanked the board off without fully untightening the bindings and one of the bolts popped straight off and disappeared to the bottom of the lake.
