yeah you need to ride at the nationals to get picked for the team and be a member of all the relevant "governing" bodies. wakeboard uk pick the team.

Not necessarily more like 2 from each category depending on funding as to how many can be taken. they could also take more from one category and maybe none from other categorys, depends on lots of factors. They could also be selected from squad training and not necessarily from Nationals.

yeah but unless there is an excuse like injury competing in the nationals used to be a must to show support for the British contest scene.
like nick says the actual results are not actually the point-plus there has to be a place to see unknown riders ride a contest, now the tour is no more.

As there are no other boat comps this year would you say that the top 3 or 4 riders in the each division of the 2 National comps (Open and Groms) will be picked for the squad and then from that squad some will be picked for the team. If your answer is yes, how do the selectors watch the squad ride? Is there a training day or do they visit different lakes around the country..etc???
Like the England manager visits different football grounds. Am I making sense?? |

it would be kind of good if Graham C could answer this but here goes.
it used to be the case that each country sends a team. there is a team winner at the end of the contest. each individual medal (bronze silver gold) in each catagory carries points to the teams total. each team can only have 2 (previously nominated) riders points count towards the team total from any one division. therefore the squad selectors (Stew Mackie and Graham Creedy) will pick the riders for the team that they predict will stand the best chance of winning or placing in their division. The squad used to be picked loosely over the season from how people are riding during the tour, with the team and squad being announced after the nationals as it is generally at the end of the season. i don't think that there are any talent scouts out there like football now the tour is no more so you would probably have to ride somewhere where your talent would be noticed and make it known that you are interested in the team selection, then you would prob have to compete in the nationals to show some loyalty to British wakeboarding. the problem for the selectors is not whether you ride good on one day but how consistantly you have been riding. Stew Mackie has always been in general the sort of guy who knows who is doing what and how consistantly they are doing it regardless of where abouts in the country they are doing it. in short if you are secretly better than Nick Davies you should tell someone... if any of this is now wrong then i apologise in advance-its been a while.
