Slightly off topic..
Nickel, How good is Mike Ferraro as I heard Nicola was already a great rider before she went to him. Why did you feel the need to take her to him. What type of coach is he (pushy, laid back, loud, quiet..etc). What did he bring to the table that Nicola hadnt already got. Can anyone book a set with him or is he choosy on who he teaches? |

I hope that i haven't given the impression on this thread that competing is the only thing that matters in wakeboarding ,Fred will go to the cable and just mess about quite a bit of the time on a board a skate , knee board and sometimes (much to my dissaproval) a swerve stick, just having a laugh which is what its about, I go out on the cable , Fred takes the piss out of me coz im old and crap and we all go home happy. I would like to have more time to freeride on the boat without the time resrtraints that costly boat sets impose i know this is what will bring out the best in peoples riding,
Back to competition (sorry) The Brit riders that i see have got great style seeing Dan and Rossi and Nick ride in the finals last week may not have got medals bar dans bronze, but got heaps of respect from all the other riders. Thats important. Nick C |

Mike gets the best out of the best. He is choosy about who he coaches because I don't think he does it for the money (he cetainly doesn't make anything out of me). He is the best coach I have seen. You could probably get him to see you but if you do not have the potential to be really good he will not coach you. He is not going to take a [i]lot[i]of your money to try and make you into something you can never be. Rather that than telling somebody what they want to hear and financially crippling them.
If I was in the UK I would go to Stew Mackie. Nick I have no problem with what anybody does and I know Nicola loves going to comps and would have loved to be at the Worlds. Its not only the competing but also hanging out with the riders that they meet from all over the world that is so cool for them. I just think in hindsight my money could have been better spent. |

Nickel, thats interesting that nicola's moved to hyperlite, from speaking with kathleen at LF she was really happy to have her onboard the maven thing. I thought that was a great company for her to be getting involved in. good luck with hype though, i hope it works out well.
P__, Mike definitely knows a lot about the tech side of riding and getting tricks in the bag, but if you want to build on your style more, and you're in orlando I would reccomend driving out to Bithlo to see Robby Jaques at the Projects. Nicest kid ever and last time i saw him ride i was literally left speechless. cheeper than ferarro too. |

Sim, the problem with LF is that they have about 80% of the female riders around. Everybody you see on the circuit rides for them and very few of them get exposure (like advertising) and even fewer get paid. This is a high risk sport and you need to earn money while you can. I don't really buy into that "paying your dues" stuff (in any sport). If you are good enough you are old enough. Hyperlite has made a big commitment to her and I believe they will deliver. I am grateful for everything we got from LF but they wouldn't commit to anything.
