Had one of these once and absolutely loved it. Built of solid granite and totally reliable. Drink petrol but that won't matter so much for your limited use:

Is there a hire company that exists that has cars with tow bars? - I've never been able to find one

I've hired vehicles with tow bars before. Normally the likes of Hertz etc won't do them but there are plenty of independants that offer them.
