so what exaclty are we paying for,
We are given this remit to become a member for insurance (which i agree is good), however not all are fee goes on insurance. Since this body is self govening and self regulating it would be very easy for a officals to spend that money on things wihch my bias certin parts of the sport. So would it be posible to be given and AGM and epxenses list for the people that actualy run it! Nowere can you find the information of how many members there are, what those members are doing and how THERE money is spent.

If you join the forum at www.britishwaterski.co.uk you could ask the questions there, at least it is in the public domain. All members of all clubs that join the bwsf have to become bws members at the last count I heard about 10,000 mags were sent out so 10,000 members prehaps ? all getting sent individual membership cards etc costing a fortune between 3 related families [ie mine] we get 14 individual post envelopes !

Might be a controversial post this but here goes any way.

As an official governing body for the sport of waterskiing (which can be used by some as a generic term to encompass waterskiing, wakeboarding, wakeskating, kneeboarding barefoot etc etc) British Water Ski play a fundamental role in keeping the possibilities to carry out these activities alive.

OK the battle for Windermere has been lost (and yes I know that some of you that still use it see it as a good thing) but a similar proposal was put forward by some environmentalists about Llyn Gerionyd in Snowdonia. British Water Ski invested time effort and money and took it to the courts, securing the future for skiing and boarding on this amazing lake.

I do agree with many of the points that everybody has made but don't forget that there are benefits to having a central voice in our sport (even if they are slightly biased towards one aspect of it!)

For the record, I pay £52 a year (BWS and BDWSA membership) for the priveledge of being a volunteer instructor for the Disabled Water Ski Association. However, being a BWS member does give me discounted wakeboard sets at Nottingham!

A valid post no problems and disagreements there, the BWS have been working hard behind the scenes for many organisations and clubs to help preserve water use, for instance the rivers in norfolk without the bws help and many peoples time and consideration would have been lost many years ago. I think any nformation that people want to see just needs to be more easier obtainable.I am sure if you ask they will provide the details for you. I have been a member for more years than I care to remember. Things just need to move with current times. without the members in clubs and the good work by the many coaches instructors, boat drivers national judges who travel around the country giving up weekends etc the waterski sport as a whole would probably not be able to exist. btw each aspect of the sport would not be big enough to hold weight in the event of fighting for water etc, as a "whole" we can do more.

Windermere was supposed to be guaranteed safe to use "forever" too until somebody decided to change it. Federation or not nothing is safe. The broads allow wakeboarding but not weight in your boat. People may disagree but when I still strapped in I would have quit rather than go back to riding on a small wake in an unweighted boat. Thankfully it will be harder to take wakeskating away.
The fed should be a good thing, in reality they are nearly useless and far from transparent..
