hey snobdr

i am pretty new to this boating malarcy sorry probably not the best person to ask. i just went out a bought a new one because i didnt know any better really but i guess what you should do is *set* a budget and stick to it. see what is around for that money. i notice from your other thread (which i posted to quickly about my boat) that you have around £16k which as far as i know would buy you a wicked boat!

Air Nautique's are expensive and i dont really think you get much more for the extra money either......

if you go second hand do get the boat checked before you buy it though - my friend has had two boat buying disasters now and the most recent one is costing him £600 to repair!

Default Where to run boat near London?

JK,

If you don't mind me asking, where would you run your own boat near London?

I've been considering a boat purchase and curious to know what facilities there are in the South East to run your own boat.

Thanks

hey chrishow

sure not a problem...ask away!

i keep my boat on Hayling Island (nearish Portsmouth) which is just at the end of the A3 and takes about 1hr30mins to get to if there is good traffic from my flat in London SE1. the marina is really nice, very clean and brilliant facilities with a nice atmosphere. it costs about £400 a year to keep my 18ft boat there and i launch it every weekend (weather permitting of course!) myself.

there are three of us london dewellers who keep our boats there are we share a 4x4 which we just keep down there all the time to haul them in and out and to the petrol station (500yards away).

the whole area down there is wicked - loads of sandy beaches (for bbq's and general lazing around) and i have just joined the local ski club as they have a dedicated waterski park about 10mins boat trip away with a pontoon where you can camp for late/early wboards.

also i often blat over to the isle of wight for the day as it can be nice and sheltered over there in the early evenings.

i didnt look anywhere else so there may well be somewhere closer/better but i should think they will just be lakes etc and therefore somewhat restricted and probably get busy at times.

hope that helps a little...

Default Spooky...

I was only just talking to a friend about where to moor a boat, then this message came in!

I too live in SE1 and yesterday spent over two hours travelling and £80 + for an hour at Princes... ouch

A friend and I are very keen on the boat puchase, but unsure where you can moor and run the boat.

Do you have the Maxum boat? If so, what model? Do you have a tower on it? (any pics?)

What are the conditions like at Hayling Island? Are there sheltered bays with calm water?

Thanks for the help.... this is becomming a possibility!
