You aren't limited to a number of tricks but most lakes dictate the number you'll get in. A practice run at the lake helps you to work out what you can manage... or you can watch other riders and see what they do. You don't want to get to the end of your run and not have time for your final point winning trick ops:

In the UK we haven't got many full length courses... we held a comp at our local lake (Westhorpe) last year and we had to use the short diagonal so 3-4 tricks per pass (6-8 total) was what most people managed. A course like Thorpe is full length with wash and wind proof banks.

I'd recommend trying a run before the comp. If i remember correctly an official course is some 400 meters long, with some space before and after it to accelerate and turn. On my first comp I got confused of how fast you need to pull the tricks (normally do 15 minute boat runs). This couse will be just under 30 seconds per run! A bit of practice won't do no harm at all. By the time I realized I'd better start doing something, the boat was turning!

Just a tip from a rookie... Good luck, and I'll see ya riding there.

Thorpe Parks comp run should be between 30 and 32 secs long but there will be a dirty great beetle floating in the middle of it somewhere,so don't forget to work that into your run-whether u intend to hit it or not u need to be aware thet it is going to be in your way at some point.
nobody will know where abouts in the run it will be until they put it in and anchor it,.but i would imagine that it will be somewhere about half way down your first pass 'cos that will be infront of the spectators and the bar area, however it could be anywhere!!

Thanks guys, all makes a great deal more sense now. Off to practise tonight, first time for a month due to injury, probably not the best set of circumstances for a first comp, but hey you've gotta do one at some stage
