Default Ballast system

V drive,

One of the boats we use has a ballast tank as well. We keep that filled; the fuel tank filled and still put two fat sacks (one in the back and one in the front) to give us even bigger wakes. I personally don’t feel that sacks are for more experienced riders. I see them as benefiting any wakeboarder by providing the ability to hit the wake with more pop and to provide better opportunity for tricks.

As an example, this past weekend, I saw a guy wakeboarding from the ski ring on the back of his boat and another guy doing it off the standard waterski pylon in the center of his inboard boat. Neither had a cage or a fly high. They weren’t doing much but they were still trying to learn. In fact one guy was muscling over wake-to-wake jumps. Even without the right equipment, you can still enjoy the sport. The problem is, you learn bad habits, which will be tough to break. On the other hand, you have to draw a line somewhere on how much money to spend to have fun.

If you have fat sacks, I’d suggest using them. If you don’t and you get good air off the boat with just the ballast tank filled, then stick with that. There is really no right or wrong for what you are doing, just trial and error while learning.

Keep up the good work.

John
