Default Ballast.

Hello All
Running A 1988 Prostar 190 And Looking To Alter Ballast. Currently Running Launch Pad Twin Squares Either Side Of Engine And 250 Litre Cling On In Back. Wakes Not Bad But Think Could Be Better.

Thinking Of Putting 250 Litre In Bow And Remote Piping Up And Getting A Fat Sofa For The Back(they Were £115 At End Of Last Season Now £169). Has Anyone Tried This Set Up. Any Good. We Ride On A Lake By The Way.

Any Thoughts Would Be Appreciated. Milk Tray Man

I have an 88 Prostar (which is for sale if anyone is interested ). I would be hesitant about putting a full sofa in the boat as fully loaded they hold 1200lbs. If you work on the 60% at the back and 40% at the front you would need to add a further 480lbs at the bow.

Overall that 1680lbs plus how ever many people you have on the boat. I would say that is way overloaded, you may end up more submarine than boat. We only put a bit more than that is a friends Maristar.

Possibly you could just part fill the sofa with water pump air in to fill the rest. I have one of the sofas which I am planning you use in my new ride so I know this can be done.

PS see if their are any sofas on ebay thats where I got mine (£65.00)

I had an 87 pro comp (same hull as the prostar) and I run a fat sofa in the back.

With it full it was too much weight (the platform was like 6" below the water) so I used to run it about 1/2 - 3/4 full. I also used to have a 600lb fat sac up the front but that was too much weigth for the front so I rarely filled it.

Be very cautious of too much weight int he bow of the boat. Its very easy to dip the nose, especially when running into rollers or when throttling off.

You’ll be needing a snorkel if you put that much weight in a Prostar

Default ballast

thanks for replys. sounds like i already have enough sacks going by what you have said, just need to position them better. the lanch pad squares i have are 440lb each and cling on is 551lb giving 1431lb at what i run now although none is in bow. if i did it 60/40 i should put launch pads in back and cling on in front. we only run with 2 peeps in boats + sprogs as back seat is out to give more room for sacks. going monday, bet waters cold. thanks for your help, most usefull. milk tray man.

Exclamation ballast

Your boat is going to be over loaded, try adding some of the weight to the front of the boat, a ratio of 60/40 should do the trick.

Why do you want to increase the load as the wake from your existing sacks should be ample for most tricks?

If you are struggling with air this could be down to technique.

twb.

p.s yep the water feels about -10 at the mo.
