Default 2008 Ronix One - Cracks in topsheet

Hi all,

Just received a brand new 2008 ronix one board by mail order, and upon getting it out of the packaging I notice it has very fine cracks in the top sheet around the binding bolt inserts.

Been doing some googling about and there seemed to be a load of people in 2007 complaining about the same problem with their 07 board, but nobody complaining about the 08 board.

Now, I cant really be arsed to send this back if its just superficial, because it'll just get bashed up on the boat anyway and lifes too short , but if this is going to affect the life of the board I'll get it replaced.

Anyone got any opinions/experience on the above without it turning into a wakeworld style board bashing session.

Did it come from the US or is it a UK supplier? Obviously that's going to be a big deal in terms of warranty.

This should be covered so whether its superficial or not, the board you got is clearly a blem or has a fault in its layup and needs replacing.

It came from UK, Tallington lakes pro shop.

It does clearly have a blem, but like I say lifes too short to worry about superficial stuff, but if its likely to be 'structural' then I'll go through the effort of sending it back.

Ive got a 2007 board which had the same problem and it soon expanded from small cracks to larger pieces flaking off, but I couldnt be bothered to send it back to the US.

However now the laminate is peeling back all around the edge of the board in big sheets (and I dont mean a little bit it all over)

Doesnt really effect the performance but it does make it look s*it. It's a shame really cos I like the board, but Ronix do seem to have had some real quality issues. I wouldnt buy another one, they maybe nice to ride but the build quality is awful.

If I were you I'd send it back and get another brand.

With no use at all on kickers??? I saw a board go out from the cellophane, have the bindings bolted on, then go over a large kicker, landed, resulting in two smaller boards.

And that was last week (LF Witness as it happens).

Everyone has stories of boards that break, every different shop will have their own prejudice (usualy for sales reasons) that often filters through to staff in & around the area.

Bottom line? You're going to jump 3- 15 feet or more in the air, with or without the help of a ramp, and land on a piece of foam, probably at a funny angle, at speed.

And people get surprised when the board, the bindings or their ankles break?!

Everyone has an opinon about Ron1x too, because they're relatively new. Take Chad Sharpe's new board- strong enough that he filed down the moulded fins himself (inconsistently he said) and drilled it himself to bolt in removable ones. Pre-production it may be but it still takes that kind of alteration, and he still stamps those landings.... I would attach pics but they're 10 times the size allowed, bear with me & i'll try and save them as something smaller!
