yeah do it at something like 10 feet high and it turns it into a side show at a strapper event, where it gets bumped to a stupid time slot because some wakeboarder broke his binding or the cable broke and the wakeboarding hasn't finished.
respect for asking the question Rob but no respect attached at all for winning the wakeskate nationals when we all know that all the best skaters won't enter.
here are the results for you,
1. Terry
2. Crowhurst
3. whoever else doesn't fall

seriously if you have to for some reason find out who's best then go to one of the pool gaps or to the Harbour project or whatever else Sim comes up with.
If we are gonna put wakeskating out there in front of everyone then it needs to be represented by the best riders we have, not be ridiculed by having to have divisions like veterans and junior boys/girls/ under 6's and whatever else. there only needs to be one division-wakeskaters.

Imagine the wakeskate nationals when the guys from company X who are sponsoring Sim's latest legit skate jam bring there big boss down to the nationals to show him what wakeskating is all about and he see's little Johnnies mum and sister battling it out head to head in the ladies division to see who can make it round all 4 corners without falling.
yeah well impressive. wakeskating is so small we need to take care of it carefully until it can stand up for itself.
we have seen the way it went in the states and how it is developing so why not learn from their mistakes and just keep it all separate from the beginning instead of copying all their mistakes like we normally do.
its working just fine, if a little slowly,as it is.
heres my suggestion, put some skate rails in at a cable that isn't thorpe and we all get a rate on a day pass and we get a preferential line at the dock queue and we ride all day with 3 hrs judged in the afternnoon for best trick on each rail. you can call it "10 inches high" and the winner will win a roll of grip tape a bit like the Banked Slalom at mount Baker. if anybody really wants to at the end, they would be allowed to whisper to their closest friend, "you see that dude there with the roll of grip tape? he's potentially the best in the country" -safe....

We're just finalizing details for a new Alliance wakeskate jam in place of the Harbour Project. It's going down in May and riders will be notified very soon of all the details. Like HP, it's a 3-day winch and jetski jam with prizes and mini-comps throughout the weekend.

If it makes people happy, the winner can call themselves british champion of high ollie contests and best trick! It's the only event that all the wakeskaters, competitive or not, will participate in so it would have more truth in the results - wakeskate contests rarely have the best riders winning or even entering (i find it really depressing that the editors of both UK wake magazines can do backside bigspins, but only one competitive wakeskater can - sort it out boys).
Plus we're not gonna ask you for entry money that will go to helping swervers travel the world on their fagplanks (thanks pat!)
This is all about pushing wakeskating and providing a comfortable atmosphere for the riders to progress.

I'll be in touch...

WakeMK now have a winch and there is talk of building some obstacles to make a semi-permanent winch park alongside the cable. Might be handy for this as you could have some kind of winch and cable session at the same venue. Talk to Mark at WakeMK.
