Post Winch Building help

Im in the prosess of building my first winch and have come to a pickle. Im building it similar to the Tahitian Omen Winch Tahitian Omen Winch but insted of a 9hp im looking at using a 10hp im stuck with the gearing of the sprocket for the spool, if i should use a torq-a-verta or comet 30 series, and if i need a cluch which also has a small sprocket on it any help would be great Thank you

a Comet 30 is a TAV. You want a TAV2 as it all comes in the 1 assembly, you just usually have to grind one of the fins off the back to get a good fit.

Gearing should be something like 10T sprocket on the TAV, to a 60T on the spool. Make your inner diameter of your spool adjustable to allow you to adjust even further. 6" is a good size inner diameter, then have holes at 7" and 8".

I think the TAV2 is only rated to 8hp

True... so is the comet 30, you need to get the comet40 to go above 8hp

Thats why 90% of winches use a 6.5hp
